The brief was to create three distinctive products that enrich the reading experience for Gen Z. Penguin aims to revamp its merchandise to captivate the next generation, recognizing that they lack the nostalgic connection compared to the millennials.

INSIGHT
This may come as a surprise, but Gen Z is a generation of 
readers. One of the popular responses from our interviews 
was, "I wish I could read more". There is a strong desire among Gen Z to read more frequently and consistently, for reasons such as stress reduction, personal growth & entertainment. They want to be an expert at consistency.
CONCEPT
As popularized by Malcolm Gladwell: The Story of Success, 
to become an expert at anything, you need to put 10,000 hours into it. However, given the busy lifestyle of Gen Z, dedicating 10,000 hours is too much, so what about 10,000 words every day? 10,000 words are approximately 20 pages. By consistently reading 20 pages each day, they can complete about 20 to 24 books in a year.





COLOURS & SHAPES
For Gen Z, gradients have taken on a new level of fascination. This fascination with gradient colour reflects the generation's desire for constant progression, growth and evolution. The moon's phases of waxing and waning have long been recognized as representing time, change and recurring patterns. Similarly, reading habits involve through the passage of time, the possibility for change, and a constant supply of new stories.

Gen Z wants to flaunt, and this can sit proudly on their walls, day by day, little encouragements poke through, cheering them on. If there’s one thing they know how to do, it’s make something their own.
